We celebrate the meeting between architecture and landscape curated into a thoughtful and meaningful interior. The layered colour palette of the outdoors is translated into the interiors through a subtle yet intentional material story. We believe beauty is in the details throughout changing seasons as light filters over surfaces and fills the room. The interior is a timeless canvas and extension of changing seasons translated through wood, stone, concrete and glass. A seamless connection between the interiors and exteriors is visually carried through the interior architecture framed by floor-to-ceiling glazing.
A modest colour palette of neutrals and warm grays with accents of black steel and metal accents frames the view. Daylight is captured within soft matte surfaces aging gracefully. The vibrancy and colour of the space are a reflection of a home well-lived. Located on the San Francisco Peninsula in the Bay Area, perched at the top of the hill in Portola Valley this property was renovated and given a fresh new start. Pan‘Orama is designed to maximize spectacular 180° sights over the Silicon Valley, San Francisco Bay, and beyond to Mt. Hamilton and Mt. Diablo. Upon entering the main house, visitors are met with expansive views through full-height glazing with oversized sliding glass doors through the open living and dining area.
The configuration of the home is formulated around a two-story circulation spine, defined by a series of cast-in-place upright concrete frames. By expanding the Great Room to the proportion of the four existing concrete bays, and converting the former Family Room zone to a Kitchen the floor plan has been generously opened while enhancing an indoor – outdoor connection to the rear deck and yard. To further capture the surrounding mountain landscape, a third floor roof deck sits atop the house, providing 360° views over the surrounding scenery. A new one-bedroom guest house was also added to accommodate family from overseas. Concrete floors and a refined wood ceiling, paired with new lighting fixtures and contemporary furnishings bring harmony and warmth to the space. This remodel was particularly rewarding as the client appreciates our personal history and connection to the house and is passionate about modern design. This has allowed our team to improve upon the existing home to create something bolder, simpler, yet still firmly connected to its past.“
